Elyse CheneyFounder and President
Elyse Cheney has been an agent for 16 years, working first with Sanford J. Greenburger Associates before founding The Cheney Agency in January 2005. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature.
Adam Eaglin joined The Cheney Agency as a literary agent in 2012. He began his publishing career in editorial at Basic Books before working as an agent at The Wylie Agency. He studied English literature at Duke University and holds an MFA in poetry from Boston University. He represents a range of literary fiction and non-fiction, including history, politics, current events, narrative reportage, biography, memoir, and popular science.
Alice Whitwham joined The Cheney Agency in August 2016. She represents a range of voice-driven narrative nonfiction, cultural criticism, history, and select literary fiction. Previously, she worked at the Zoe Pagnamenta Agency and managed programming and marketing at McNally Jackson Books. She studied literature at Cambridge and holds an MA in poetry and cultural theory from the University of Chicago.
Allison DevereuxAgent, Foreign Rights Director
Allison Devereux joined The Cheney Agency in 2019 as agent and foreign rights director. She represents narrative nonfiction, memoir, cultural history, natural history, science, sports, philosophy, and select literary fiction. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin's Plan II Honors Program, she began her publishing career at Macmillan before working as an agent and foreign rights manager at MacKenzie Wolf.
Danny HertzAgent, Literary Development Director
Danny Hertz joined The Cheney Agency in June 2019 as the Director of Literary Development for film and TV. Prior to The Cheney Agency, Danny worked in the Media Rights Department at United Talent Agency for 4 years. He concentrated on selling IP to be adapted for both film and TV, working with authors, journalists, and screenwriters. Danny majored in Critical Studies of Film/TV at Occidental College in Los Angeles.
Claire GillespieAssociate Agent
Claire Gillespie joined The Cheney Agency in 2017. Prior to The Cheney Agency, she worked at the Poetry Foundation, Farrar Straus and Giroux, and Yale University Press. She focuses on literary fiction, memoir, cultural criticism, upmarket fiction, and audio. She studied English Literature at The College of William & Mary.
Isabel MendíaForeign Rights and Agency Associate
Isabel Mendía joined The Cheney Agency in July 2018, after studying History at Yale University. A native of Miami, Florida, Isabel assists Adam Eaglin and Allison Devereux and works in the agency’s foreign rights department. She is interested in representing a range of nonfiction, including cultural criticism, narrative reportage, politics, and history. Prior to joining the agency, Isabel interned at Sterling Lord Literistic and Abrams Books.
